Concept of this system is awesome- however I did a test with a 3 pack of baby back ribs. All at 200° For 4 hours then up too 250° for 3 hours. One rack no down draft system, rack 2 down draft installed and pinwheel closed. 3rd rack down draft pine wheel open. Used Hickory pellets made by cookin pellets, and Traeger controller by Savannah Stoker for a consistent 10° swing. Absolutely no difference in smoke flavor- with a blind taste test with 4 guys. They theory is good and works well in a stick burner but in a pellet grill not needed. Next the door catch has too come off too fit the down draft in so a chain link provided is not good and will scratch the grill barrel where it sits. In the directions it says you can bend the stock catch and put on opposite side. So I did - and catch broke the bending part. I even put a little heat on it with a propane torch and it broke clean off. Disappointed with the hack look of chain, and now broken catch.

Big change, temps evened out and flavor came up. Had to do a little cutting/grinding to fit it in, but it was worth the effort.

I installed on my Traeger and noticed efficiency in pellet usage. I also think I am getting better smoke flavor in my cooking. I have whole chicken, a ton of veggies, some quick cooking for chicken breasts and brats.
Great addition to my smoker.

My stainless wire broke on the first use also. I will look for a different solution.
It runs low so I had to grind one inch off of the end of of my custom cast grates, not a big deal. I also had to grind the welds off of the top shelf bracket (no biggie I don't use it)
My main complaint with the Traeger was the uneven temps across the main grilling surface. Much much more even temps now, very tolerable.I even like the grill now! I don't know why these grill manufacturers haven't incorporated this into their designs. Seem like a no brainer to me. I guess it would add to the manufacturing cost.
Highly recommended. One star down for the cheesy door catch wire solution that went right in the trash.
DON GODKE edit:
Please READ the PRODUCT NOTES on the Shelf Bracket, it is well explained, but nobody reads the notes. The notes have been there for several years

Pros: This thing does keep in more smoke and produces more smoke flavor and a deeper smoke ring in meat.
Cons: The stainless wire used to replace the door catch broke on the first use. (The terminal end pulled loose.) I got some steel flat bar at the hardware store and made my own catch. This and the warning that I couldn't use it with my top shelf knocked it down from a 5 to a 4 star.
My Traeger had/has a top shelf and I had some confidence that I could save that and I was right. I notched the shelf bracket in the back and had to cut the bracket in the front for clearance. I cut the first two front to back bars on the right side of the shelf (one grill bar and one leg support bar) and bent the front turned down leg straight out to the right and cut off about 1/2" of that as well. Then I drilled a 1/4" hole in the downdraft-t at the proper height to accept the straightened leg.

Installed on my old Treager that never seemed to have enough smoke flavor no matter who's pellets I used. Did not like the smoke tube as it left a lot of build up in the chamber. But since adding the Downdraft and a new controller that allowed me to adjust fan speed I have to admit the pellet cooker is now on par with a stick burner. Have done Ribs , Sausage and Summer Sausage and a Pork Shoulder all were far better than what had been smoked before. As others have mentioned now smoke comes out the drain and will need to figure a way to control it. Installation was easy and I chose to replace my hinges with Rectec lid stop hinges. Pellet usage is visibly less and heat is more stable across the grill. This is a Great Way to add new life to a old grill

Excellent product , keeps smoke where it is needed . I also plug the grease drain with a paper towel to stop smoke from blowing straight out hole .
